Portage Rocket Football (PRF)
In 2019, PRF’s flag program joined with the NFLFlag organization, which gave us new flag jerseys and flag belts. In 2020, PRF adopted the NFLFlag rule book with some exceptions and modifications in the interest of PRF. The flag format will continue as last season, 2021, with the 5on5 format and reduced field sizes for more competitive play. Flag rules are posted on the League Info/Rules. Flag football participation will remain open to all youths in Portage and greater Kalamazoo area.
PRF 2021 tackle season was the inaugural season with the Kalamazoo Valley Rocket Football League (KVRFL). Due to continuing decline in tackle participation, the program was ready for a new direction in a league with games versus other area rocket programs. This coming tackle season will continue under the same eligibility restrictions: resident in the Portage Public School district or attend a school within the city of Portage.
Tentative Dates for the 2024 PRF Season
Registration Opens: June 1 (late fee applied on August 1)
Flag Football Combine Assessment: August 12th & 15th @ Ramona Park from 6:00pm-7:30pm (check-in at 5:30pm)
(only attend one date for flag)
Tackle Football Combine Assessment: August 14th-15th @ Ramona Park
from 6:00pm-7:45pm (check-in at 5:30pm)
(plan to attend both dates for tackle)
Teams Draft: August 17th
Practices Begin: August 19th
First Game: September 7th
DO NOT WAIT UNTIL AUGUST TO FIND EQUIPMENT
Start shopping for any equipment needs ASAP, especially helmets (any color) and shoulder pads as recent years has experienced short supplies.
FLAG/TACKLE DIVISIONS

Practice locations and times are TBD by the head coach.
Games are expected to be played on Saturday mornings and mainly prior to 12pm.

3rd – 4th Grade
5th – 6th Grade
Practice locations and times are TBD by the head coach.
Home games are expected to be played at either Portage Northern Huskie Stadium or Portage Central McCamley FIeld.
Game times will vary throughout the day on Saturdays.
About Portage Rocket Football
PRF offers youth flag football in three age divisions and tackle football in two grade divisions. Flag divisions are open to all Portage and greater Kalamazoo area youths. Tackle divisions must be either Portage residents or attend a Portage area school.

2nd graders: 8 years old on August 1st or weigh greater than 85 lbs with equipment can play tackle in 3rd/4th grade division.
